Background
In the earliest times, information was recorded as scratchings on the wall of a cave. Since that time, writing systems evolved, the printing press was invented, and methods to transmit movies were created. However, with the creation of the Internet, some experts claim that human knowledge doubles every fourteen months. This is because of technology and the way we interpret information. People no longer go to the library to check out books and research topics. Instead they go to their computer and go to Google or Yahoo and type in what they want to research. Here are some fun facts about the expansion of information. Experts say that more than a billion songs are shared over the Internet in MP3 format, and Youtube host over 100 million video streams a day. In 2006, the amount of digital information created, captured, and replicated was 1,288 x 1018 bits. In computer language, that's 161 exabytes or 161 billion gigabytes this is about 3 million times the information in all of the books ever written.

Nokia claims to have made the phone of the future. The Nokia 888 looks like something out of the future. You can bend it, twist it, and fold it up. You also don't have to worry about carrying it in your pocket you can wear it like a wrist watch, clamp it to your pocket, or clothes. The phone was designed by Tamer Nakisci. One question that I asked myself was how it worked well it runs on liquid batteries, flexible touch screen and speech recognition technology.
In today’s world the largest library is available for anyone with a monitor and a modem. Uploading and the accessibility of the Internet have changed the way educators’ approach teaching and learning.
Teachers now have a fast, easy way to reach their students out of the classroom, with the ability to upload their syllabuses for all their students to see, and educator email addresses usually provided by their schools or districts.
Learning on the Internet can stretch from beyond the classroom, and now can even replace the classroom. Online schools like Phoenix University are Internet driven, and take advantage of the convenience the Internet provides them. Other accredited online universities include AIU Online , Kaplan University , Ashford University , Walden University , and the list keeps growing. It’s not only university you can complete online, but you can also achieve your GED, A levels, some masters courses, and even an undergraduate degree, through online home schooling and accredited programs to earn a high school diploma, either as a home-schooling high schooler or as an adult.
The Evolution of Modern Education
In Vail, Arizona, students at Empire High School aren't even using textbooks this year, because the school has provided each student, all 340, with laptop computers. All curriculums taught are centered around information on the internet, and all projects and homework can be turned in online. [7]
One of the negative effects of this leviathan library of information the Internet provides is that educators are seeing an increase in plagiarism. [8] Sites such as researchpaper.com and ermpapers-on-file litter the internet, making plagiarism easy, quick, and convenient.[9] Teachers should be aware that plagiarized work is at their students fingertips, and that there is software available, like the EVE Plagiarism Detection System that searches the internet to compare essays and papers for the percent of plagiarism.
Other negative effects that reach schools, because of the easy information the internet provides, is the accessibility to inappropriate images. Young children may stumble upon them, or teens may actively seek them out, but either way they disrupt the learning process. Most schools that provide internet access also enact web filters to block out images and sites that contain pornography, violence, or racism.
Government, Politics and Employment
Within the last couple of decades, our government, politics, and the choosing of employers has changed drastically. Around the world, government is more efficiently and effectively involved with meeting the needs of the people. In previous years, politics was a more personal and honest thing. Before, the American people would tune in to their radios or by checking in the next morning’s to learn about their presidential candidates. Now, as technology expands, the majority of Americans are getting their information and forming their opinions from what they see on television and what they can find on the web. The way that a candidate is viewed is becoming a lot more relevant than the actual issues at hand. This changed began to come about during the Nixon and Kennedy debate. This was a highly televised debate that would change politics as we know it. Kennedy’s appearance could be described as well groomed, “young looking” lively, and handsome, and alert. Nixon however was described as, sickly, and not as nearly attractive as Kennedy. Kennedy went on to win the race for the presidency by a substantial amount of votes. When voting, before the ballots would have to be punched in, one by one, category by category. Now, the majority of voting is done by computers. Because of this, elections are much more effective and it takes a lot less time this way.
Arts, Entertainment and Leisure
A new medium that is being used today for the exchange of information is a thing called a podcast. A podcast can refer
to a series of free downloadable talks that can be taken from the internet from Web-feeds to portable media players and personal computers. A podcast can a lso refer to a new episode of a podcast. Although it can be attained by streaming or by direct download, it is different from all other digital media formats in the fact that it can be easily be subscribed to, and downloaded whenever new content is added.
Podcasts can talk about anything, from politics and religion, to food and health, to bands and music, to sports teams, even about what someone had for lunch on a particular day. The name comes from the word broadcast and podcast is simply a broadcast for an iPod. One do es not need an iPod to listen to a podcast because it can be put on any mp3 player. The most popular program for downloading a podcast is iTunes though they can be downloaded with many other programs as well. It's more handy than a radio broadcast because it can be listened to at anytime, whether it be the day after or the year after. It also can be paused if someone gets tired of listening to it, or it can be fast-forwarded and rewinded to find what they want to listen to.[10]
